The Bermuda Gymnastics Association hosted the 2024 Bermuda International Gymnastics Challenge on March 15th, 2024. The meet was held at BGA’s St. Davids location.  28 athletes from both Bermuda Gymnastics and Quality Gymnastics attended this international invitational.

Athletes at levels Excel Bronze through Level 6 competed on all four apparatus.

Level 6 included athletes Maddie Bigley, Hayleigh Cherry, and Lexi Daniel. (all from BGA) Highlights of the meet were Hayleigh Cherry finishing first on beam and the all-around. Maddie Bigley placed first on vault and Lexi Daniel placed first on floor and bars.

In the Gold level athlete Yhari Goater-Jones (BGA), placed first in the all-around category with a score of 37.35. She also finished first on Vault (9.25), 2^nd on Bars (9.2), 2^nd on Balance Beam (9.45), and first on Floor exercise (9.45). Cassandra Mayers (BGA) finished 2^nd all-around (36.45).  She also finished first on Balance Beam with a score of 9.6. Eva Wright (BGA) finished 3^rd all-around (36.35) to round out the top three in the level.  She finished first on Bars with a score of 9.35. Elena Bortoli (Qgym) finished third on vault with a score of 9.0.

Competing Level 4 was Ashanti-Sarai Darko (Qgym). She finished first place in the all-around with a score of 34.1.

In the silver level, Maddie Pritchard (BGA) finished first on the floor (9.4), bars (9.65) and all-around (37.3). Quality Gymnastics Abigail Maringi finished first on vault (9.3) and second in all-around (37.25).  Annie Archibald of Quality Gymnastics finished first on the Balance beam with a score of (9.65). Samantha Talosa finished 2nd on vault with a tie for first (9.3). She also had 2^nd on Balance Beam.

In the bronze level, the first-place all-around athlete was Eleanor Garcia of Quality Gymnastics. (36.6) She also finished first on vault (9.2) and bars (9.3). Lily Hall (Qgym) finished first on Balance Beam (9.3), and floor exercise (9.0).

Congratulations to all the athletes from Bermuda Gymnastics Association and Quality Gymnastics.

The next competition will be Bermuda Nationals. 

Run – Swim – Gym

All children should run, learn to swim, and do basic Gymnastics in preparation for ALL other sports.

When Sydney Mason retired from gymnastics aged 18, she did not expect it to take five years to discover a sport that excited and challenged her as much as her first sporting love.

Mason was once the top gymnast on the island, representing Bermuda at the Pan American Games in Toronto in 2015, competing in the vault, bars, beam, and floor. …

The 25-year-old had no martial arts experience before her first session at OpenMat – the island’s first Brazilian Jui-jitsu academy – but said she immediately felt at home in such a friendly environment. …

Mason, who competed at the Jui-jitsu No-Gi Championship in Toronto in Las Vegas last month, added: “Like gymnastics, there’s always a new skill to learn and your game needs to change depending on your opponent.

“I enjoy the diversity and want to become as well-rounded a competitor as possible.”

The Burlington Gymnastics Spring Cup is Canada’s largest competition with about 1400 competitors.

Congratulations to the BGA competitors who did very, very well.
